Using web 2.0 in my classroom
**Note to readers** This post is for a class. I didn't see the point of creating a whole new blog for just one post for an assignment.
The only way I can currently see using any web 2.0 tools in my classroom is as a teacher. I am currently placed in a second grade classroom with 80% being ELLs. I don't see how any of the tools we've been shown would truly benefit my students. I could see in the future when working with older students, that wikis could be useful when having students work in groups, but truly more likely would be for late middle/high students. As a teacher I could see using the social bookmarking as a valuable resource. I do use the concept already, but the old fashion way, by sending my peers an email with the links in it. I already make pretty good use of RSS by subscribing to the blogs of my friends who are also teachers. I'm sure that as my RSS subscriptions grow I'll find use of the aggregators, but until them I'm quite happy without them.
If I were in a high grade, and had students who had a decent command of the English language I would consider using blogs for my students.

I find it interesting how useless you think these Web 2.0 tools would be! I think they will be extremely useful, but I know I will rarely, if ever, use them. It seems time consuming, and as a teacher, you don't have much time!

Cara! You are amazing and I think you will be a very resourceful teacher! I like your ideas! Maybe you will teacher upper elem. and will be able to use Blogs with older students!
Cara! Nice and to the point! There are so many resources and it is important to not only know how to access them, but to filter them. Hope you don't get too many snorers in the library this weekend!!!
I love your blog site and can tell you already have a great comprehension of how to use technology. I'm sure you won't have any problems incorporating it to your daily classroom.
Cara! It is sad, but I do agree to a certain point. I think that these would be difficult to use with the age of students that you are going to be teaching. Bummer!
Nice job Cara. I agree that a lot of these tools seem more beneficial to high school students. But I do feel these tools are important for us as teachers to be able to use them and understand them. Overall good job.
I agree that it would be difficult to incorporate these web 2.0 tools into an elementary classroom, let alone a classroom full of ELL's. However, I think it can be done. Children could write a collaborated story, or you could use the tools to put together a large project. It definitely can be done, but has a limited was in which to use it at the elementary level.
I wonder if you did any looking on the www.go2web20.net webpage. If you look under kids there are many tools that would be applicable to an ELL classroom. Also under Language there were some really great translating sites that could help when sending home stuff for parents to read.
I really like your ideas about using this for ELL students! I had not though about this before!
